Are you taking life into your own hands or are you letting someone else tell you what’s healthy?

I find that, when it comes to their health, many people constantly modify their lifestyle to fit in with the current media fad. They’re not really paying particular attention to how often these fads are motivated by money rather than health. Everyone’s life is different, and everyone has their own wants and needs when it comes to optimal health. The circumstances in one’s life often shape their own desires when it comes to achieving optimal health.

In my own life, I have been extremely motivated to improve my own health. I was diagnosed with asthma when I was young and had horrible allergies my whole life. These two “illnesses” had a negative impact on my experiences in sports and outdoor activities. I did not feel it was fair that I had to be limited physically. I also often got sick easily as a child: I had strep throat every year until my mid twenties.

Fortunately, life led me to people who piqued my interest in how I could improve my health and nourish my body so it would heal itself from these ailments. I began by eating healthy, a quest that continues to evolve. As I improved my diet by eliminating dairy and extremely limiting my processed food intake, I immediately felt results. I continued to try different things that fit my lifestyle such as sprouting, juicing, and cleansing. As I implemented and continue to implement healthier choices into my lifestyle my health improved and continues to improve dramatically. Now I rarely get sick—it’s been years since I have had something that required medication or missing a day of work. My allergies are gone. My asthma is still challenge, but I have not had to use an inhaler for several years. Feeling these changes has motivated me to eat healthier.

I also enrolled in the School of Natural Healing and started using herbs, a nutrient dense food that nourishes my body. When a body is clean and nourished it will heal itself from any ailment. It may take time, but it will heal. As Dr. Christopher (hyperlink to his website) said “there is no such thing as an incurable disease, only incurable people.”

True optimal health does not consist of fighting to keep good health, it’s about being disease free, full of energy, physically active, mentally sharp, and emotionally and spiritually balanced, at peace with yourself and your surroundings. Everyone is looking for the magic pill or the perfect program to reach these goals; what we need to realize is that optimal health is a choice we make and a way we live. You define your own idea of optimal health, and it will change over time as your circumstances change. If you really want to achieve optimal health, then do it. Take the first step: nourish and cleanse the body.
